Senior Al-Nusra chief in hands of Lebanese Army

BEIRUT, July 24 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Army troops have nabbed senior chief of the Syrian opposition organization, Al-Nusra Front, in the northeast of the country, the official National News Agency (NNA) said on Sunday.
The ranking chief of the Syrian movement was stopped and arrested at a checkpoint on fringes of the border town of Ersal, the NAA said.
Ersal has been witnessing high tension for days, after a local government administrator was shot and seriously wounded by gunmen.
The army maintains positions in and around Ersal in the face of Syrian opposition groups, positions of which are scattered all over nearby rugged mountainous regions. The Lebanese military suffered scores of deaths in fierce fighting with the Syrian gunmen in summer of 2014 in the border region. (end) wsm.rk
