RAMALLAH, July 24 (KUNA) -- Scores of Jewish settlers burst into courtyards of Al-Aqsa Holy Mosque on Sunday, the Palestinian Islamic Awqaf Department said in a statement.
The settlers stormed the holy site via Bab Al-Magharbeh gate, escorted by Israeli police forces. Palestinian worshippers inside the mosque resisted the incoming settlers who entered the location to perform Jewish prayers.
Jewish activists often target Muslim sanctities in the holy city, with company of policemen.
Meanwhile, the Israeli media reported a plan by Tel Aviv to build 1,200 new settlements in territories between East Jerusalem and the town of Jala. Construction work is already underway for building the new settlement units.
The Israeli government endorsed a scheme, last month, to build 800 new settlements in Maaleh Adomim, located on territories of East Jerusalem, aspired by Palestinians to be capital of their sought State. (end) nq.rk
