Kabul blasts death toll rise to 80, wounded 231

ISLAMABAD, July 23 (KUNA) -- The death toll of twin blasts targeting a rally in Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Saturday rises to 80 where around 231 people injured, said officials.
The spokesman for Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Mohammad Ismael Kawasi confirmed that at least 80 people were killed and 231 others injured as twin explosions ripped through a rally organized by Hazara minority community.
The Afghan Ministry of Interior also confirmed the casualties.
According to police, some enraged protesters gathered after the explosions and threw stones at security officials.
The first explosion happened near the Barikot Cinema and the second followed in Demazang Square area, said police reports. According to local media, the so called Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for the deadly bombing.
Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the deadly suicide blast in his televised address to nation following the attack.
United Nations Assisted Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also condemned the attack against a peaceful demonstration. The United Nations stands firmly with the people of Afghanistan as they seek to exercise their fundamental human rights," said UNAMA chief, Tadamichi Yamamoto.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the US strongly condemned the dastardly terrorist acts in Kabul.
They extended condolences for families of the victims, and wished speedy recovery for the injured. (end) sbk.bs
