KUWAIT, July 18 (KUNA) -- Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Murad Tameer appreciated Monday the support of the State of Kuwait and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Turkey from the very beginning of the failed military coup on Friday.
"This communication through different means reflects great support from the State of Kuwait and its people. This gave us more strength and proved that the Turkish and Kuwaiti people are really friends and brothers," he told a news conference at the embassy.
He said that the Turkish leadership, government and political parties are opposed to coup movements, boasting this as one of the key principles of the Turkish republic.
He added that investigations showed that a group of military personnel with different ranks came together and launched this failed coup attempt, regretting that they had attacked the parliament and several state facilities.
The ambassador noted that this "terrorist movement", which was launched on Friday evening, was not backed by high-ranking military commanders, including the army chief of staff.
Tameer added that this movement had been stymied by security agencies and army units, hailing the Turkish people for coming out onto streets in swift response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's call as a sign of support to the country's democracy.
The senior Turkish diplomat reassured that life is now back to normal nationwide and all vital state facilities have resumed work. (end) hrz.hjb.mt
