Two policemen killed in gunmen attack on cafe in Dhaka - BBC

KUWAIT, July 1 (KUNA) -- Two police officers were killed in a gunfire with gunmen who stormed a popular cafe in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on Friday, and have reportedly taken scores of people as hostages, BBC reported.
It said the gunmen stormed the cafe, located in the diplomatic area in Dhaka, took dozens of people, some foreigners, hostages and killed two police officers in an exchange of fire.
The broadcast said so-called Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security forces said they were trying to negotiate the release of hostages with their captives, said the BBC.
"We want to resolve this peacefully. We are trying to talk to the attackers," Benazir Ahmad, head of the Rapid Reaction Battalion, was quoted by the broadcast as saying.
The nationalities of the hostages are still unknown. (end) bs
