Lashkar-e-Taiba militants gun down eight Indian CRPF men, injure 22 others

NEW DELHI, June 25 (KUNA) -- India Saturday announced eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and 22 others injured in a militant attack in Pampore city of Pulwama district in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir state.
The attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Quoting a CRPF spokesman, Indo-Asian News Agency said two LeT 'fidayeen' attacked CRPF bus on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Pulwama district resulting in the killing of eight CRPF troopers and injuring 22 others.
The spokesman added: "A vehicle carrying CRPF troops back after routine duties was attacked by two LeT terrorists in Fristbal area near Pampore town on Srinagar-Jammu national highway." The agency further quoted the CRPF spokesman: "Two LeT terrorists traveling in a private car came from the opposite direction and got down in front of the CRPF bus, resorted to indiscriminate firing and later tried to enter the bus." However, the CRPF men were able to gun down both the attackers.
In a statement sent to some local news agencies, Lashkar-e-Taiba spokesman Abdullah Gaznavi owned the responsibility for the attack. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (end) atk.bs
