(with PARL-KUWAIT-ASEMBLY-SESSION) KUWAIT, June 13 (KUNA) - The new draft bill approved by the National Assembly on Monday amending the Kuwait Municipality Law 5/2005 is likely to promote the institution and achieve a quantum shift in its work, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim said on Monday.
Great efforts and a long time were lavished to achieve the bill, through the parliamentary public utilities committee, Al-Ghanim said in a press statement after today's session.
According to the chief parliamentarian, distribution of the constituencies for the Municipal Council elections led to many postponements of the bill, for the "sensitivity" of the issue, which led to a tug-of-war among MPs during today's session.
It was eventually settled by the amendment the government offered, according to which it can identify the constituencies through a decree, Al-Ghani said.
The provisions of the new bill aim to promote the Kuwait Municipal work and deter violators, the Speaker said.
He hoped that it will be soundly applied with a direct and immediate effect for developing the Municipality and dissolve the overlapping with other government bodies. (end) sss.msa
