Niqab ban to take effect 1 July in Swiss Ticino - Kuwait's embassy

GENEVA, June 8 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti women willing to visit Switzerland have to be careful as the Swiss canton of Ticino will enforce a law banning niqab (face veil) as of July 1, the Kuwaiti embassy in Bern said on Wednesday.
The statement added that the canton includes several cities and districts, noting that a niqab wearer could be fined up to USD 1,000, or even more in case of insisting on not taking it off.
The embassy urged Kuwaitis planning to visit the canton during the summer holidays to be careful to avoid trouble with the Ticino authorities. (end) ta.msa
