Taliban kills 11, captures 12 soldiers in Afghanistan's military base attack

ISLAMABAD, June 7 (KUNA) -- At least 11 Afghan soldiers have been killed and 12 others captured by the Taliban rebels in central Uruzgan province, said officials on Tuesday.
Former provincial council head Amanullah Hotakai told media that the insurgents launched a coordinated attack on an army base in Sokhti area of Deh Rawood district in Uruzgan. He confirmed that 11 soldiers were killed and 12 others taken hostage by Taliban, adding that the rebels also seized weapons and other equipment.
According to local media, Taliban rebels claimed responsibility of the attack, saying that large numbers of soldiers were killed in the attack. The insurgent attack came at a time when Taliban have intensified attacks across Afghanistan, vowing to continue their spring offensive against local and foreign security forces after a US drone strike killed former Taliban leader last month.
