BRUSSELS, May 31 (KUNA) -- A nation-wide strike by public sector workers in Belgium Tuesday has seriously affected public transport, schools and hospitals.
International train services like the Thalys and ICE, are also affected, according to Belgian media reports.
Trade unions have launched a day of industrial action today against the austerity programme of the government of Prime Minister Charles Michel.
The socialist public sector union has announced strike action on the railways until Friday. In Brussels the four metro lines are running with delays, only half of all tram services are running, but only one bus line in ten is operating.
Thousands of workers are taking part in a demonstration in Brussels this afternoon that will cause more disruption to traffic in the capital. (end) nk.mt
