KUWAIT, May 31 (KUNA) -- 1964 -- Turkey's first ambassador to the State of Kuwait, Wahid Khalaf Uglu, presents credentials to late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1966 -- The Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issues a decree appointing Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince, based on the nomination of the National Assembly.
1994 -- The State of Kuwait joins the standing committee of the International Petroleum Council.
1999 -- Dr. Suleiman Al-Askari is appointed Editor-in-Chief of Al-Arabi magazine, the widely-circulated monthly publication of the National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters.
2000 -- The State of Kuwait assumes the first senior post at the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultancy. Eid Al-Deihani is appointed assistant secretary general of the organization.
2001 -- The Palestinian official in charge of Jerusalem's dossier at the Palestinian National Authority, Faisal Al-Husseini, passes away during a visit to Kuwait where he took part in a meeting against normalization of relations with Israel. Al-Husseini died of a heart attack in his hotel room. The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah ordered his body to be flown home onboard a special plane.
2003 -- The court of cassation headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Essa issues a over an appeal regarding a public authority, which consisted of 11 counselors. This was the first of a kind sentence since establishment of the court in 1972.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opens first session of the 13th legislative term of the National Assembly. MP Jassem Al-Kharafi was elected as Speaker and MP Abdullah Al-Roumi as Deputy Speaker. (end) hb
