Political process only choice to end Syrian crisis - EU chief

JEDDAH, May 30 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Monday that the political process is the only way for the Syrian people to end their suffering.
In a joint press conference with Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister Adel Al-Jubeir, Mogherini expressed her hope that the political talks between the Syrian regime and the opposition reach a political solution to the crisis.
Mogherini noted that the situation in Syria is very complicated and that the European Union is working with parties involved to find a viable political solution to the crisis.
The EU High Representative also expressed hope that violence would stop in Syria and permission for aid enter the sanctioned areas granted, noting that their goal is to provide humanitarian assistance to those trapped areas, urging a comeback for Geneva talks.
Regarding the immigration crisis in Europe, Mogherini said the EU is exerting all its efforts to save the lives of immigrants.
For his part, Al-Jubeir said that they support the Syrian people to live in their country with a future without President Bashar Assad having a role in it, affirming on the continuous military support to Syrian opposition.
Al-Jubeir added that his country support efforts exerted by the EU and calls by the international community. (end) nh.mb
