Yemen peace talks on right track - UN envoy

KUWAIT, May 29 (KUNA) -- The UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said Sunday night the intra-Yemeni peace talks are well underway and the coming stage will be crucial.
"The United Nations is trying to create firm ground for building a comprehensive consensus on a mutually-acceptable political solution," he said in a press release following his consultations with representatives of the Yemeni government, Ansarullah movement and General People's Congress (GPC).
"The meetings with the GPC and Ansarullah movement focused on the visions of the two parties for coming stage and the necessary guarantees for the resumption of the political dialogue," he disclosed.
During its session earlier today, the committee on the affairs of prisoners and those who are under house arrest received from the government delegates the lists of pro-government detainees slated for release one day after the GPC and Ansarullah handed the UN envy similar lists of their detainees.
"All negotiators are scheduled to raise their respective observations on the lists of detainees by Tuesday," the UN envoy added.
A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) arrived here on Wednesday to discuss with the Yemeni stakeholders the ICRC role in the implementation of a possible prisoner swap deal. (pickup previous) hrz.nma.gb
