Turkish army, coalition kill 40 IS militants

ISTANBUL, May 29 (KUNA) -- Forty of the so-called Islamic State (IS) were killed by joint military operation by he Turkish army and International coalition north of Syria, a statement by Turkish army chief of staff said Sunday.
The statement did not give more details on the nature of the operation, but only said that an air forces and artillery backed the land operation.
The joint operation comes one a day after Turkish artillery destroyed various IS locations after IS fired mortar shells from the Syrian territories targeting Turkish Gaziantep city on the Syrian borders.
The statement added heavy artillery centered on the borders lines, including the firing of rockets, enabling the Turkish forces to completely destroy four IS locations.
Earlier, the Turkish army announced the killing of 104 IS rebels in a similar joint operation.
Meanwhile, Turkish airplanes destroyed six PKK locations north of Iraq.
A statement by the Turkish Army Chief of Staff said that Turkish warplanes destroyed six locations that belong to the outlawed group Peoples Workers Party known as the (PKK).
Last night, the Turkish air force destroyed two locations for PKK, one is a weapon cache, and a refugee camp north of Iraq. (end) ta.mb
