KUWAIT, May 29 (KUNA) -- 1892 -- The Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Abdullah bin Sabah Al-Sabah (Abdullah II) passed away after ruling the country since 1866. Sheikh Mohammad bin Sabah Al-Sabah was chosen as the sixth ruler of Kuwait and his rule lasted till May 1896.
1940 -- The Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a law, regulating divers' profession and setting punitive measures against violators.
1997 -- Stock trading posted the second highest rise in the history of the Kuwaiti bourse in terms of both volume and value. As much as 419.7 million shares were traded for KD 118.29 million, leading to a 19.9-point hike in the KSE benchmark.
1997 -- Kuwait became the 91st country to sign the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
1999 -- A clinic for the elderly inaugurated in Al-Ruodha area.
2000 -- The International Organization for Epidemics elected the State of Kuwait as a permanent representative and chair-state of the Middle East Committee.
2000 -- Kuwait Municipality ordered removal of the fishermen village in Al-Osheirej.
2003 -- The executive board of the World Health Organization selected Kuwait's Health Minister Dr. Mohammad Al-Jarallah as deputy board chairman.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree to form the 27th Cabinet, to be chaired by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The government line-up consisted of 15 ministers including one woman. (end) gta
