UN's commission on crime prevention, criminal justice wraps up 25th session

VIENNA, May 27 (KUNA) -- The UN's Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) on Friday concluded its 25th session in Vienna with significant resolutions.
Participants in the five-day event addressed the relevant international cooperation and the progress achieved by the world countries in combating transnational organized crime, including terrorism.
Discussions covered various topics, topped with criminal justice responses to prevent and counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the financing of terrorism, and technical assistance in support of the implementation of relevant international conventions and protocols, Kuwait's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations Sadiq Marafi told KUNA.
Comprising this item on the agenda was the outcome of elaborate negotiations a head of the CCPCJ's 25th session, he added.
Marafi warned against the growing phenomenon of terrorism over the past years, saying that the Middle East is facing threats as terrorists are employing modern technology and social media to spread their extremist and subversive ideas.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's statement at the session reviewed the serious steps the country had taken to counter terrorist activities on the national levels, through adequate legislations, as well as joining the relevant international conventions, he said.
Referring to the resolutions made by CCPCJ during the session, Marafi said they were six significant ones on preventing and combating trafficking in human organs, human trafficking, bolstering legal assistance and prevention of crimes for supporting sustainable development. (end) amg.mmj.msa
