GENEVA, May 27 (KUNA) -- The Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao praised on Friday Kuwait progress in the communication and information technology (IT) fields, including keeping up with the latest in this regard, which was triumphed in the award to Kuwait in a forum by the Information Society 2016.
Zhao's remarks were made during a meeting with visiting Kuwaiti Telecommunications and Information Technology Public Authority President Salem Al-Uthaina.
The meeting highlighted bilateral relations between Kuwait and ITU, including communication, information and electronic security, both by governments and personal users.
The meeting also delved into utilizing small to medium sized enterprises when dealing with financial services in the digital world, in addition to various types of manufactured applications, through what is known as "digital economy." Al-Uthaina, on his part, briefed ITU's chief on Kuwait's keenness to have IT become a critical part of the State's overall development.
Since 1865, ITU worked to enable the growth and development of telecommunication services, networks and technology around the world.
Its activities are focused in three main areas; standardization, radio communication and development. (end) ta.mb
