Drone strike kills 12 militants in E. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (KUNA) -- At least 12 fighters belonging to so-called Islamic State (IS) were killed during separate drone strikes by NATO forces in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province during the past 24 hours, said officials on Thursday.
The provincial government spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said that a strike took place in Sarobi Village of Achin district killing at least six IS fighters. He claimed that no civilian was killed in the strike.
Another four militants were killed in a separate drone strike in Pirakhel area of Khogyani district in the province on Thursday morning.
Moreover, Nangarhar police spokesman, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal said an airstrike killed two fighters of the militant group in the Kot district of Nangarhar.
The drone strikes came at a time when Afghan security forces are fighting the insurgency across the country following the withdrawal of NATO/ISAF forces from Afghanistan in December 2014. (end) sbk.nfm
