Pentagon seeks to save USD 1.9 billion with staff cuts

WASHINGTON, May 25 (KUNA) -- The US Department of Defense intends to reduce its staff costs by 25 percent, equivalent to USD 1.9 billion, and shift that funding toward the modernization and training of the US military. The Pentagon's Assistant Deputy Chief Management Officer David Tillotson III told the Pentagon-funded news outlet DoD News on Wednesday that this restructuring will take "multiple years." A total of 309 positions will be cut from the office of the Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, as well as 1,260 other positions from defense agencies and field activities, Tillotson said. (end) ys.gb
