Obama arrives in Japan for G-7 Summit

TOKYO, May 25 (KUNA) -- U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Japan on Wednesday evening from Vietnam to attend the two-day Group of Seven (G-7) summit beginning Thursday.
Obama is scheduled to hold meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe later in the day on the sidelines of the G-7 Ise-Shima summit.
In their bilateral talks in Shima city, Abe will ask Obama to apply strict measures to prevent the recurrence of crimes by US military personnel and employees, following the alleged murder of a young Japanese woman by a US base worker in Okinawa Prefecture, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said earlier in the day. "The government is fully aware of of the gravity of the incident, and that Prime Minister Abe will seek strict measures from President," the top government spokesman told a press conference.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss the main summit themes, such as the global economy and North Korea's missile and nuclear weapons development.
The G-7 groups Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the US. Obama will visit Hiroshima with Abe on Friday after the conclusion of the G-7 summit, set to become the first incumbent US president to visit the atomic-bombed Hiroshima city. (end) mk.nfm
