ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, May 5 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait-based Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation held a ceremony on Thursday to distribute prizes to the winners of poets and poetesses.
The first prize went to Mohammad Turki Hegazi from Jordan, while Khaled Al-Waghlani from Tunisia and Ahmad Balbola from Egypt won the second and third prizes respectively. Rana Azzam from Egypt got the fourth one. About 150 poets and poetesses took part in the competition. During the ceremony, winners recited a number of their poems in front of audience.
Mohammad Abou Shawareb, a professor at Alexandria University and the ceremony's official, said the Kuwaiti foundation has been supporting poetry in the Arab word since its establishment in 1989.
He added that the foundation will add two other prizes to reach six for contesters in the upcoming year. (end) msh.hm
