Yemeni stakeholders discuss UN proposal

KUWAIT, May 4 (KUNA) -- Representatives of the three Yemeni parties involved in Kuwait consultations held a second session of the UN-sponsored direct talks at Bayan Palace on Wednesday evening.
The negotiating teams of the Yemeni government, the General People's Congress and Ansarullah movement focused on the framework put forward by the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed for a peaceful settlement to the conflict through addressing the political, security, economic and humanitarian aspects of the crisis.
The proposal aims to set in motion a transitional stage based on the UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the GCC initiative for peace and the outcomes of the previous rounds of the Yemeni National dialogue.
The talks also dealt with the activation of the recently-agreed truce monitoring committee, the demilitarization of armed groups, the release of political detainees and abidance by the political course for settling the crisis.
The UN-sponsored talks resumed earlier today after three-day hiatus following the announcement of the government delegation of suspending the talks in protest against an armed attack on a military camp in Omran province, west Yemen. The resumption, announced late last night, came through the good offices of Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulatif Al-Zayani (pickup previous) am.gb
