KUWAIT, March 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait remains steadfast in its commitment to human rights, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, noting that the issue of human rights is "no longer a national issue, but an international one." Assistant Foreign Minister for Coordination Affairs Nasser Al-Sabeeh made the remarks at a workshop on the Arab tenets of human rights, organized by the ministry on Tuesday.
Al-Sabeeh underscored Kuwait's support of laws dealing with human rights, saying that such support stems from an unwavering conviction.
Moreover, Chairman of the Arab League's human rights committee Dr. Hadi Al-Yami said that holding this workshop helps to facilitate work on human rights issues, as Kuwait is set to issue its first report on human rights.
Al-Yami also described the report as a monumental step that will bring progress on the issue of human rights.
The workshop, which features participation of a number of Arab human rights committees, tackles the Arab charter on human rights, in addition to discussions of reports submitted by Arab nations on the issue. (end) msa.nam
