Official highlights Saudi King's vision on GCC environment cooperation

JEDDAH, May 2 (KUNA) -- Director and Chairman of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah official on Monday underlined the momentousness of implementing Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud's vision for bolstering GCC action in environmental work.
The King's vision comprises major topics such as preservation of the marine environment and coastal areas, combating desertification, caring for ground water and facing climate change, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah told KUNA in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The EPA chief is leading the Kuwaiti delegation to the 37th meeting of the GCC Undersecretaries of Environmental Affairs that kicked off in Jeddah today.
He emphasized the necessity of comprising the vision in the strategic plan of the GCC Ministers of Environment Affairs.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah referred to the momentous step taken by the GCC undersecretaries, namely launching the first edition of the GCC environment e-gate that was founded thanks to support from Kuwait's EPA technical team.
The gate will offer GCC environment data for researchers, regional and international organizations and academic and civil society institutions, he said.
During the 37th meeting, the EPA will review outcome of a workshop held in Kuwait last week on enforcing environment legislations and mechanisms of environmental police work.
The workshop was patronized by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who is also head of the Supreme Council of Environment. (Pick up previous) nh.msa
