Court sentences 20 defendants to life imprisonment

CAIRO, April 30 (KUNA) -- An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced 20 defendants to life in prison for having committed violence and rioting outside Port Said Prison.
The Port Said Criminal Court also sentenced 12 other defendants to 10 years in jail, and 18 defendants to five years in prison.
The defendants were charged with killing people, including several police officers and injuring scores in clashes with security forces outside the Port Said Prison following the announcement of a court verdict on a stadium massacre case.
In February 2012, some 72 soccer fans were killed and 254 others wounded in a massacre that erupted at the end of a soccer game between both Egyptian teams in Port Said. (end) rg.mt
