UK to send four "Typhoon" fighter jets to protect Baltics

LONDON, April 29 (KUNA) -- The United Kingdom is to send four "Typhoon" fighter jets to the Baltics to boost NATO operations in the region's airspace security.
In a press statement on Friday, UK defence secretary Michael Fallon said that the Typhoons, and their crew, which are currently stationed in Amari air base in Estonia will join NATO's Airspace Surveillance and Control Command to monitor the Baltics' skies.
"The Typhoons will operate in a quick reaction role against any violation from Russia or any other country," the minister pointed out.
This move shows how serious the UK is about the security of its eastern European partners, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The UK has been committed to protecting the Baltics for the third year. It deployed Typhoon aircraft to Lithuania in spring 2014 and to Estonia between May and August 2015. (end) mrn.nfm
