Russian sub catches fire

MOSCOW, April 29 (KUNA) -- A Russian nuclear submarine docked at a scrapping plant in Kamchatka's Vilyuchinsk in the Far East caught fire on Friday, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.
The scrapping plant's chief was quoted by the agency as saying that the fire, which broke out during the hull dismantlement, was put under control.
Denying reports on possible ecological threats, he said: "Before being sent to the scrapping plant, all weapon systems and nuclear elements were removed. There is no threat to the ecology." "There was neither technologic nor ecological threat," he added. (end) as.mt
