Qatar on standby to host 23rd Gulf football Cup if FIFA keeps ban on Kuwait

DOHA, April 25 (KUNA) -- National football associations of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) agreed in principle Monday to hold the Gulf football Cup in Kuwait next December, providing FIFA lifted its ban, otherwise Qatar would host the tournament.
If FIFA did not lift its ban on Kuwait Football Association (KFA), then Qatar would host the 23th Gulf football Cup next December, said Saud Al-Mohannadi, vice-chairman of Qatar football association.
He was speaking while chairing a standing committee of the Gulf Cup's meeting, attended by secretaries general of the football associations of the GCC countries, Iraq and Yemen.
The committee members, he added, also agreed to hold the 24th Gulf Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December 2017, providing Qatar hosted the next Cup.
Al-Mohannadi said FIFA Congress would meet in Mexico next month to discuss the lifting of ban on Kuwait. If the ban is listed, he added, a committee to inspect stadiums would visit Kuwait to see how ready they were. (end) nnd.bs
