KFAS Scientific Ctr commemorates Earth Day

KUWAIT, April 22 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Scientific Center of Kuwait (TSCK) Mejbel Al-Mutawa' highlighted the importance of celebrating the global events relating to environment protection in raising the public awareness about the risks facing humanity.
"Pollution and degeneration of environment pose a grave menace to the future of humanity," he told KUNA on Friday during a function held by the center to mark the Earth Day which falls today.
Eng. Al-Mutawa' said this occasion serves as a reminder for all state departments to reduce the air, water and land pollutants and work together for shouldering this collective social responsibility.
TSCK, an affiliate of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS), has set a rich agenda including a range of activities such as galleries of pin feathered birds, an art gallery on Earth Day by painter Nadia Al-Enezi, a magic show by Khaled Al-Mohareb, an animal show and concerts, he revealed.
"The celebration signals the awareness of the state institutions and the community about the need to protect environment which impacts the public health.
The State of Kuwait has developed a legislation to protect environment in keeping with its international commitments," Eng. Al-Mutawa' pointed out.
He added that the celebration of the Earth Day coincides with the 16th anniversary of the TSCK which benefitted up to nine million visitors through various educational, cultural and scientific programs.
The function was held in collaboration with Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, the technical guidance department of Hawally educational directorate, the Environment Public Authority, Kuwait Environment Protection Society, Kuwait University, and Omniya Plastic Bottle Recycling Project.
