KUWAIT, April 16 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- First edition of "Al-Rai Al-Aam" newspaper hit the stands.
1962 -- Kuwait joined the United Nations (UN) Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
1972 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Decree 24/1972 approving an agreement for pan-Arab transport of hearing and optical tools, publications and technical, cultural, educational, and scientific equipment.
1985 -- Members of Parliament (MPs) presented an interpellation motion against Minister of Justice and Legal and Administrative Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on alleged financial irregularities.
2000 -- His Highness the Amir, the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, granted Lebanese President Emile Lahoud the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Medal in appreciation for the Lebanese people and government's support for Kuwaiti causes.
2000 -- Lebanese President Emile Lahoud granted His Highness the Amir, the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Lebanese Order of Merit of the extraordinary grade for the stances of the Kuwaiti government and people regarding Lebanon.
2002 -- Kuwait shooting team won second and third place in the World Cup Championship in Sydney, Australia.
2006 -- Official statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information showed the Kuwaiti population grew to one million people, seven fold as compared to the first census in 1965.
2010 -- Kuwait signed a diplomatic cooperation agreement with France and another agreement on cooperation in peaceful nuclear technology and science applications.
2012 -- Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced inking two contracts for exporting diesel and aviation fuel for the Ethiopian Petroleum Corporation. (end) rk
