WASHINGTON, Feb 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to Canada Abdulhamid Al-Failakawi has commended Canada's role in the Liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi invasion, 25 years ago.
Al-Failakawi recalled efforts of the Canadian troops in the war during a ceremony held by the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs in Ottawa on Saturday, marking the 25th anniversary of liberation.
The event was attended by a host of senior government officials, topped with Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Chief of the Air Force Staff, who had taken part in the 1991 war. Diplomats from the member states of the international coalition that led the war also attended.
Al-Failakawi voiced high appreciation by the Kuwaiti people over the sacrifices of more than 4,000 Canadian troops for the liberation of the country, upholding the values of freedom and democracy.
He described Canada as a true friend, and stressed Kuwait's commitment to working hard for boosting bilateral ties in all fields, referring to a military cooperation agreement recently signed between the two countries. (end) yt.msa
