KHARTOUM, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- Zain Sudan, an affiliate of the Kuwait-based Zain Group, has been awarded a contract on Thursday to offer the high-speed 4G LTE internet service for the first time in the country.
The deal was signed by Zain Sudan Managing Director and CEO Al-Fateh Orwah and Director of Sudan's National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) Yahya Abdullah in the presence of Sudanese Minister of Communication and Information Technology Tahani Abdallah Atia.
The minister expressed in a speech at the ceremony great joy for "this historic moment" which marks the introduction of the 4G internet service to her country.
On his part, CEO of Zain Sudan said the 4G LTE network represents a critical juncture in the information technology and opens huge horizons for the flow of information to subscribers.
Zain Sudan (formerly Mobitel) is the pioneer of GSM services in Sudan, being the first to offer mobile operations back in February 1997. Today it serves the largest base of mobile customers in the country with more than 12 million active customers. (end) hha.gb
