New law includes NGOs, charities, volunteer teams - Min. Al-Sabeeh

KUWAIT, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- The new societies' law will include NGOs, charities and volunteer teams, said Hind Al-Sabeeh, Minister of Social Affairs on Saturday.
"There will be no restrictions on works of societies, but we will regulate civil actions in order for all to benefit from," noted Al-Sabeeh, who doubles as Minister of State for Planning Affairs.
Her remarks came during a national festivity held by the "civilian alliance to bolster peaceful coexistence and deplore violence;" an initiative of Kuwaiti civil society organizations to promote cohesion and national unity.
Non-profit societies became a third partner in achieving state development, along with the government and private sectors, the minister noted.
On her part, the alliance's secretary general Khadijah Al-Mahmeed said the alliance; grouping 12 societies, is working on a national document draft to promote peaceful coexistence.
The draft, when set, is to be presented to other civil society organizations during a general assembly to be ratified then forwarded to parliament, she noted.
The draft will be a civil contribution to the government's efforts in maintaining national unity and protecting the Kuwaiti society from extremism, Al-Mahmeed pointed out. (end) mtt.hb
