KUWAIT, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Omair said Saturday that the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has been controlled and that medical procedures have been taken to treat infected cows, confirming the safety and disease-free situation of livestock and its products in Kuwait.
Minister Al-Omair made his remarks in a press statement during a field trip he conducted to Sulaibiya area, accompanied by Faisal Al-Hasawi, Director General of Fish Resources at the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Affairs (PAAFRA) and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Kanderi, Director of Livestock Health at PAAFRA), to check the health status in cow farms and dairy factories following recent infection of some cows with FMD.
This trip is part of following the workflow in the cow and cattle breeding field, checking the health status of all animal activity sectors, and making precautionary and preventive measures to combat the FMD spread, which threatens the lives of cows and livestock in general, he noted.
Minister Al-Omair also listened to some explanations by cow and cattle breeding specialists on the difficulties they face that hinder their activities, proposals to remove these obstacles and develop potentials and sources to protect livestock from fatal diseases, and finding the best enhanced ways to increase production.
He called for the formation of a joint committee to manage epidemic crisis that hit livestock in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act No. 42 of 2014, and Amended Act No. 99 of 2015. (end) mf.ma
