Insider attack kills 6 policemen in S. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (KUNA) -- At least six policemen were killed and seven others wounded in an attack on a police checkpoint in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province, said officials on Thursday.
The governor's spokesman, Zia Durrani told media that a policeman drugged his colleagues at the checkpoint in the Nooruddin Kala area of Zherai district in Kandahar.
He further said that the policemen fell unconscious after being drugged, six of them were gunned down and seven others wounded by their rogue colleague. The attacker was also killed in return fire, he added. A delegation from the police headquarters arrived at the scene for investigations.
According to local media, Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said that the attacker loyal to Taliban rebels had killed 15 policemen, including checkpoint commander.
The insider attack came at a time when Afghan security forces have paced up their operations against Taliban across Afghanistan after the rebels took control of several districts of the country. (end) sbk.ibi
