IS 'probably' conduct attack in Europe, 'attempt' attack in US in '16 - US

WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- The so-called Islamic State will "probably" conduct an attack in Europe and "attempt" an attack in the US in 2016, said Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Vincent Stewart to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday.
"ISIL will probably attempt to conduct additional attacks in Europe, and attempt to direct attacks on the US homeland in 2016," he said.
Testifying alongside Stewart, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said that IS is "taking advantage of the torrent of migrants to insert operatives into that flow" and "are pretty skilled at phony passports so they can travel ostensibly as legitimate travelers.
"Violent extremists are operationally active in about 40 countries, seven countries are experiencing a collapse of central government authority, 14 others face regime-threatening or violent instability or both. Another 59 countries face a significant risk of instability through 2016," affirmed Clapper. (end) ak.bs
