Bahrain, Russia share views on main issues - FM

MOSCOW, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Foreign Minister Khaled Al Khalifa applauded as significant the outcome of the summit talks between King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi resort on Monday.
The summit showed that both countries hold identical views on the main issues of common concern, notably the combat against terrorism, and support to legitimacy and territorial integrity of all countries, the minister said at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
"Russia plays a crucial role in the efforts to bring Syria out of the current crisis and restore stability in the Middle East," Al Khalifa said, urging the other major powers of the world to coordinate with Russia in this regard.
Meanwhile, Lavrov said Russia and Bahrain came out in favor of peaceful settlements of all conflicts in the Middle East region and assert people's right to decide their own destiny.
"Leaders of the two countries have discussed cooperation on international affairs, on regional issues and discussed the situation unfolding in the Middle East and in North of Africa," the Russian news agency TASS quoted him as saying.
The two sides are of the view that the top priorities for the international community must include an irreconcilable fight against terrorism, commitment to peaceful settlement of conflicts, and inadmissibility of actions that leads to disintegration of states, he noted.
Regarding the Syrian issue, Lavrov said the two leaders "confirmed our common support for action of the international community on the basis of full and strict implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
"We will be offering such support through the International Syria Support Group that will meet for a next session in Munich on February 11," he said.
"Russia and Bahrain want to see Syria a stable country in which the foundations of a secular state are fixed, the country which ensures its territorial integrity, the country in which the rights of all without exception citizens are guaranteed.
"These are the principles that we see underlining for the settlement of other conflicts in the region: those in Libya, Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We pay particular attention to a need to boost effort of the global community towards contribution to the Palestinian-Israeli settlement on a just international basis," he added. (pickup previous) as.gb
