France calls UNSC for firm, quick, severe response against N Korean provocation

NEW YORK, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- France called the UN Security Council for a firm, rapid and severe response in response to the new "outrageous" provocation by North Korea.
Speaking to the press on his way in to the emergency UNSC consultations, the French Ambassador to the UN Francois Delattre said that "what we are facing today is a new outrageous provocation from the North Korean regime, and a blatant violation of all concerned resolutions of the council." Delattre told the gathered press on a Sunday at the UN headquarters, that such actions is a grave threat to international peace and security.
"As the entire international community condemned this action, now is the time to translate this work into "a quick and severe response from the security council," he added.
"Weakness is simply not an option," he noted in this case.
When asked about a resolution on this incident, the French representative said the "sooner the better, the firmer the better." On Saturday, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has conducted a launch using ballistic missile technology in violation of relevant Security Council resolutions despite the united plea of the international community against such an act.
The Council called on Saturday evening for an urgent meeting, with the participation of the Department of Political Affairs Chief Jeffery Feltman. (end) mao.bs
