ICRC suspends operations in Gaza due to security concerns

GAZA, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Sunday it was suspending operations in Gaza Strip until security was provided for its workers.
The announcement came after some people tried to storm into the ICRC office in Gaza under the protext of solidarity with Palestinian prisoner, MKohammad Qaiq.
The ICRC is in contact with the Palestinian authorities in Gaza to makre sure no one attack the office nor its employees, spokesperson Suhail Zaqqout said in a statement.
She said the ICRC doctors were closely following the health condition of Qaiq.
Palestinian authorities active in prisoners' affairs and the journalists union set up a tent in front of ICRC office in protest against the administrative detention of Qaiq. (end) wab.bs
