35,000 Syrians flee to Syrian-Turkish border

ISTANBUL, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- Some 35,000 Syrians, majority of whom fleeing Aleppo, have arrived in the border region near Kilis and are being given dwelling in makeshift camps on the Syrian side, said a Turkish official on Saturday.
Sulymen Tabiz, Kilis Governor, told reporters near the border checkpoint, where the displaced Syrians have been gathering, that he expected number of incoming Syrians to swell 70,000, in case Russian Air Force warplanes continued strikes and Syrian Government forces pursued advancing on regions around Aleppo.
"Our gates are not shut but there is no need to host these people inside our borders now," he argued, indicating that food and bedclothes have been distributed to them.
Attacks by the Syrian regular forces and the Russian warplanes have concentrated on opposition strongholds around Aleppo, causing civilians' exodus toward the borders with Turkey. (end) ta.rk
