Kuwait calls for including disabled people in development plans

NEW YORK, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait Friday called on importance of including issues of the people with disabilities in the development plans, both at national and international levels.
Diplomatic Attache Alya Al-Muzaini said the Special Rapporteur on the right of persons with disabilities, Catalina Devandas, who assumed office in 2014 has a crucially important job which make sure that disabled people enjoyed full rights and freedoms, specially after the adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Al-Muzaini was addressing a meeting of the Commission for Social Development of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), regarding the implementation of the SDGs.
She noted that the SDGs were emphasizing on issues of disabilities.
Al-Muzaini said the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in Kuwait Hind Al-Sabeeh proposed the establishment of the Arab union of blind women, aimed at highlighting the capabilities of this segment and obstacles facing them.
She said Kuwait hosted a forum last December discussing how to help Arab blind women in self-empowerment. (end) mao.bs
