OIC concerned over Syrian gov't, opposition Geneva talks' suspension

JEDDAH, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday expressed regret at the decision by the UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura to suspend the Geneva negotiations aimed at settling the Syrian crisis till February 25th.
In a statement, OIC's Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani called on all Syrian parties to put the people's interest above all other considerations and to work towards reaching an agreement that would stop more the bloodshed in accordance with the Vienna and Geneva agreements as well as the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
He pointed out that the OIC was keen on the meeting for the Syria supporting group in Munich on February 11th which will hopefully adopt practical proposals to advance the negotiation process and settle humanitarian issues as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the Secretary General of the Organization expressed his deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria and the continued loss of life and property.
He lauded the donor conference on Syria and the region which was held on Thursday in London to consider ways to provide funding to meet the immediate needs of those affected by the Syrian crisis. (end) nh.tg
