Berlin, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Head of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD) Aiman Mazyek expressed his deepest concern over the situation of Muslims residing in Germany who might be subjected to some social prosecution due to inappropriate actions committed by small groups.
The situation of Muslims in Germany became critical and worrying, especially after the flow of millions of Syrian refugees to the country, he said.
The "sexual assaults scandal", that took place in Cologne on the New Year's Eve, was allegedly carried out by Muslim Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians youth by the local police, he added.
The daily life of German Muslims is characterized with toughness, and is now also being harder following these attacks, he said.
Muslims applying to jobs and hanging out in public places is not widely welcomed by the locals.
Meanwhile, ZMD is receiving thousands of supporting letters by citizens to the Muslims in Germany, who are suffering from social prosecution, he said.
The German government is fully aware of this situation and cannot neglect the danger posed against the Muslim community, he affirmed.
During my meeting with the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Ralf Jaeger, one of the biggest German states, I got the impression that the political circles are taking Muslims fear into consideration, he said.
Muslims asked the security forces to tighten the security offered to Muslims facilities and mosques, as hater towards Muslims in German is growing, he mentioned.
Mazyek called on the German politicians to use more friendly language in tackling this issue to better serve the coherent coexistence between Muslims and local Germans, he affirmed.
He lauded the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel positive policy towards the Syrian refugees' crisis, as she warmly welcomed them on the German territories and allowed them to integrate with the society.
The government is not only obliged to offer protection, but also to set laws criminalized anti-Islam and anti-Muslims actions, he said He called on spreading peace in the Middle East, and urged the European countries to contribute to this, especially in Syria. (end) anj.lb
