One Turkish soldier killed, four wounded in clashes with PKK - agency

ISTANBUL, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- One Turkish soldier was killed and four others wounded in clashes with Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, security sources said on Saturday.
PKK rebels opened fire on a police vehicle in Diyarbakir, state-run Anadolu news agency quoted the sources as saying, adding that the ensuing clashes killed one soldier while four others were wounded and were subsequently rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Turkey is resuming strikes on the autonomy-seeking PKK after a two and a half year ceasefire collapsed last July, amid the worst violence the country's southeast has seen in decades.
The PKK took up arms against the state in 1984, igniting a fierce conflict in which more than 40,000 people, mainly Kurds, have died. (end) tma.nam
