KUWAIT, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's ice hockey team defeated Qatar 7-4, its second victory in the ongoing fourth edition of the Gulf ice hockey championship, the country's club for winter sports said Saturday.
In a phone call to KUNA, the club's Chairman Fuhaid Al-Ajmi described Kuwait's victory against host nation Qatar as a monumental one. Kuwait has secured a spot in the semifinals of the championships by virtue of its 17-1 thrashing of Oman at the start of the tournament, he added.
Kuwait is due to face United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, to cap off the first round of the tournament, Al-Ajmi noted.
Al-Ajmi raved about the national team's performance thus far, saying he remains hopeful that they would continue to dominate.
The tournament, which began on Thursday with the participation of four countries, is expected to conclude on Tuesday. Kuwait and UAE are at the forefront with each scoring two consecutive victories. (end) tb.nam
