Rome railway station resumes operation after hoax terrorist alert

ROME, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- The central railway station in the Italian capital has resumed normal operation on Monday evening after a hiatus of one and half hours forced by a terrorist alert.
The security services at the station were put on red alert after receiving tips that a man carrying a machinegun stopped near the station, media reports said.
Dozens of policemen have promptly cordoned off the area, evacuated the station and managed to arrest the man who turned out to be a mentally-deranged Italian with a toy rifle.
The incident took place while Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani were holding a press conference. (end) mn.gb
