KUALA LAMPUR, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait embassy in Cambodia announced on Wednesday the opening of the Cambodia-Kuwait Friendship Hospital, which will provide the public with free medical care.
The announcement came from a statement to KUNA by the embassy's charge d'affaires Nasser Al-Hajraf who attended the opening ceremony of the hospital.
Concomitant with that event was also a ceremony marking the laying of the foundation for a medical complex to train medical staff and health care-givers. The hospital and the medical complex are the result of Kuwaiti funding of such infrastructure projects in Cambodia.
Attending both ceremonies were Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sar Kheng, Deputy Interior Minister Paul Lem, Director General of Kuwait Zakat House Mohammad Al-Otaibi and a number of representatives of Kuwaiti charitable organizations, said Al-Hajraf.
The hospital covers an area of 20,000 sq. meters, housing units for Pediatric Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN), Radiology, Surgery, and a lab. The hospital also boasts a mosque, lodgings for staff, and parking lots.
The hospital is the first of its kind to provide free medical care to the public and is a testament to the burgeoning Kuwaiti-Cambodian relations, said Al-Hajraf.
On their part, the Cambodian officials expressed their thanks to Kuwait for extending help to Cambodia in its efforts to provide the public with the necessities of health care, housing, and education. (end) mm.ajs
