BEIRUT, Jan 2 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced on Saturday it would continue delivering aid to Syrian refugees in all Lebanese regions despite stormy and snowy weather.
Msaed Al-Enezi, the KRCS envoy to Lebanon, said in a statement to KUNA that the Kuwaiti "warm winter" campaign is proceeding to relieve the Syrian refugees, "now in dire need for help for the snow storm has taken its toll on many of the refugees, particularly the elderly and children." Braving unabated falling rain, snow and biting cold, KRCS teams have reached the refugees' locations, distributing food, mattresses, blankets and detergents to 1,000 families in the northernmost region Akkar, Tibnin in southern Lebanon and Iqlim Al-Kharoub, a mountainous region southeast of the capital -- dotted with a chain of villages and towns.
Meanwhile, Yousef Boutros, the relief coordinator at the Lebanese Red Cross, lauded the Kuwaiti teams for challenging the hard weather conditions and directly handing over the relief supplies to the refugees.
The Kuwaiti efforts will largely help the refugees, namely hundreds of families, dwellings of whom have been damaged with the piling snow.
Lebanon is currently gripped with a snow storm that resulted in various problems, particularly for the refugees who dwell in ram-shackled and ragged tents and old houses in various regions of the country. Many of the countries' roads have blocked or blanketed with snow, rendering motorists' movement extremely arduous. (end) mah.rk
