BAGHDAD, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi government approved special US forces' deployment in the country to step up fight against so-called ISIL, the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL said Monday.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi gave his approval for the deployment of a special US force, coalition spokesman Steve Warren. The force consists of less than 200 troops.
Warren said this special force would carry out secret missions inside Iraq and in coordination with the government in Baghdad, as well as working on cutting supplies between ISIL militants in Syria and Iraq.
He did not elaborate on the time of deployment, headquarters or specific details of operations.
The US-led coalition is supporting the Iraqi army with airstrikes, training and armament, but have not contribute to ground forces since withdrawal from the country. (end)
