Iran exchanges enriched uranium for Russian yellowcake

TEHRAN, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said his country has received a shipment of Russian-made yellowcake on Wednesday in exchange for low-enriched uranium.
A consignment of Russian yellowcake has entered Isfahan city, central Iran, and Iran's enriched uranium will be transported from Bushehr city to Russia aboard a Russian ship, Salehi said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Iran is supposed to ship nearly nine tons of low-enriched uranium to Russia by yearend, he pointed out.
Salehi noted that Iran can store no more than 300 kg of enriched uranium annually and the remaining must be exported or turned into fuel pursuant to agreements with Russian and a number of other countries.
In late November Russia resumed exporting nuclear technology to Iran after the UN-imposed sanctions on Iran were lifted in the wake of the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran, the P5+1 in Vienna on July 14, 2015. (end) mw.gb
